Melanistic jaguars are a rarer sight than their orange counterparts, so count yourself lucky if you ever catch a glimpse of one sitting in the bright tropical sun. Apex predators like jaguars bring balance to their ecosystem. When I feel sad about the state of conservation on our planet, I often visualize plants and animals coming together to fight off evil corporations and their greed — like something out of Princess Mononoke. I always imagine big cats as their powerful leaders.
