I once saw a mountain lion in the East Bay Hills of California. Far away, but close enough to see its elegant stride as it cautiously winded its way through fields of green — illustrated here with coast live oak, Indian paintbrush, California bluebells, and lupine. I feel lucky that we have such powerful animals living among us. As predators at the top of their food chain, they bring balance to the landscape and remind us that the wild is closer than we think.
