There is something about the combination of jewel-toned greens and ruby red that I find irresistible in rose-ringed parakeets. Native to the tropics of Africa and South Asia, they have also made themselves at home in cities across Europe and the Middle East. The male has a black neck-ring and pink nape-band set against shades of lime and jade green. This pair is lounging among the striking foliage of a Gulmohar, or flame tree.
