This butterfly look-alike is one of the first insects that inspired me to take up scientific illustration. Technically it is a planthopper (Calyptoproctus stigma), and its beautifully patterned wings are genuinely jaw-dropping. The only issue? It is not much bigger than a housefly! I wanted to draw it so that its intricate beauty could be easily seen and appreciated.
