Wompoo Fruit Doves Print

I illustrated these Wompoo fruit doves several years before I visited the Daintree rainforest in North Queensland, Australia. I had read that, despite their bright colors, Wompoo fruit doves can be very hard to see in the canopy and that frequently the only signs of their presence are the sounds of falling fruit or their distinctive "wompoo" calls. As I looked out at the ancient stands of ficus, eucalyptus blossoms, and fan palms, I could indeed hear them calling softly, all around.
