The deep cobalt, aqua, and sunset yellow of this longhorn beetle (Sternotomis mirabilis targavei) from Sub-Saharan Africa is one of the most striking color combinations I have ever seen in nature. Working in an entomology collection, I get to see an extraordinary range of specimens — but this one stops me every time. It brings to mind Darwin's famous closing words: "...from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved."
